Why is the study of Geography important?

Topic: Geography
Target audience: 11 Grade students

Geography is the study of Earth's landscapes, people, places, and environments. It is to understand the Earth and all of its human and natural complexities and the process of how things evolved. We study Geography for knowledge. Geography puts this understanding of social and physical processes within the context of places and regions recognizing the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes, and environments across the world, and the links between them. Understanding the causes of differences and inequalities between places and social groups underlies much of the newer developments in human geography. Having knowledge of Geography is helpful in related job scopes such as applied management resources and environments. It also allows us to understand what causes natural disasters in the world and how to react when natural disasters occur. Understanding the causes such as global warming and anything that affects the world is the first step to enabling us to figure out ways to reduce or eliminate the problems. Learning through geography whether gained through formal learning or experientially through travel, fieldwork and expeditions help us all to be more socially and environmentally sensitive informed, and responsible citizens and employees.

  2. This blog really open my eyes on the discipline of Geography. I study it in school but I did not like it. I really like how this was explained and simplified. To answer your question; I think it is important because we as a people should at lease have an idea of how the earth and its people came about and how they operate. I think I now have a vivid understanding of the structure of the globe.
